Deadlocked Jury in Officer Porter’s Trial Could Be Problematic for Prosecution

Baltimore defense attorney and former prosecutor, Andrew I. Alperstein was quoted in a recent Press Chronicle article regarding potential outcomes for Officer Porter and the remaining five charged officers in Freddie Gray’s death, depending on whether a retrial occurs.

Mr. Alperstein notes, “If he’s [Officer Porter] convicted and sitting in jail, it’ll be of no significance to the officers if he’s convicted on his first or second trial, but the perception is clearly that it’s a victory for the defense.” In regard to a new trial, “It’s a do-over – with a preview of the evidence.”
