Warren Alperstein Gives Legal Analysis Regarding the Initial Arrest of Freddie Gray

Warren S. Alperstein was quoted in WPYR’s article regarding the beginning of Officer Nero’s trial. Nero is one of the six officers charged in the death of Freddie Gray. Prosecutors are expected to argue Nero did not have the authority to chase Gray.

Mr. Alperstein, a former prosecutor, stated that “The Supreme Court has ruled repeatedly that when an individual flees unprovoked from police officers in a high drug trafficking area, the officers are within their legal rights to pursue, apprehend and ultimately frisk that fleeing citizen,” thereby making the prosecutors theory much harder to prove.
